Project description

The building provides for a reception, bar and lounge, stage (theatre), workshops, recording studio, practice rooms, dressing rooms, classrooms, offices and kitchen. The main space of the 320-seat theatre is designed as four pivoting, stepped segments to make it a more informal and dynamic space and allow sub-division for smaller performances. The site provides paved walkways, outdoor performance area tarmac and car parks.

Project complexities

The development was constructed on the site of a historic landfill. Malone O’Regan designed and supervised the implementation of site remedial measures and produced a validation report to confirm that all works were completed in accordance with approved specifications. These measures included the construction of specific measures within the building design to protect future occupants against risks associated with landfill gas. In total 6,600 tonnes of contaminated soils were removed offsite in accordance with all relevant legislation as part of the remediation works.
