Senior Structural Engineer / Associate Designate

SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER / ASSOCIATE DESIGNATE – DUBLIN

We are currently seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with strong analytical skills for our Dublin office to work on a range of commercial, institutional and industrial projects in Ireland and overseas. This is an ideal role for a high calibre Engineer with strong experience in the delivery of projects and with the ambition and potential to develop into a member of the senior management team, contributing to the effective management of the Company including participation in the planning and execution of its strategy.

The role will involve client relationship management with the retention of existing business and the generation of new business as high priorities.

Key responsibilities will include the following:

General
• Implement Company policy.
• Plan and manage project resources.
• Undertake career planning and arrange for effective mentoring and training of employees under your direction.
• Offer pro-active advice in relation to problem solving issues.
• Oversee compliance with Company’s Quality Management System.
• Oversee compliance with Health and Safety practices by those under your direction.
• Develop and manage the annual budgets for the Company’s Galway Office.

Business Development
• Work closely with the Directors to help realise the Company’s ambitious business plan for its Galway Office.
• Manage client relationships and business development – you will be expected to increasingly expand knowledge on clients, markets and project opportunities to develop existing client relationships and establish new relationships.
• Develop regional marketing strategies to promote Malone O’Regan to prospective clients, identify new leads and convert them into projects.

Projects
• Developing fee proposals and contract reviews and approval of same.
• Client liaison.
• Undertake project cost control, oversee project cost control by team members and compile project invoices.
• Negotiating fee variations with Clients and supervising of same.

Technical
• Lead and promote design excellence within the business.
• Delivery of sustainable and profitable engineering solutions, and securing repeat business through client satisfaction.
• Confidently run multiple projects at various stages and project values with limited Director involvement.
• Adopt appropriate design philosophy and develop concept design.
• Prepare and review designs and design documentation.

 

Key qualifications & skills

Candidate must:

  • Have a Level 8 / 9 Degree in either Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Be Chartered and preferably be a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
  • Have a minimum of 12 years’ postgraduate experience, preferably in consulting role(s). Experience on Architect-led projects would be a distinct advantage.
  • Possess good technical, communication and management skills.
  • Possess commercial astuteness, in terms of understanding and managing project budgets.
  • Have the ability to prepare high-quality project reports, chair and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Be committed to CPD.

Student Placements

INTERNSHIPS

Malone O’Regan works closely with the Third Level Colleges to organise professional work placements for students to ensure that they gain the relevant practical experience to enable them to complete their courses successfully.

Our internships are paid short term contracts. You will work on real projects and be mentored by our Engineers and Technicians. As you progress through your internship, the level of responsibility attached to your role will increase. You will work as a member of our Team and be expected to make an input in to the achievement of team goals from day one.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

We offer short term work experience across our varied disciplines and services. These opportunities introduce Second-Level students to one of the most interesting and challenging professions in the world. These placements are usually of one or two week’s duration unpaid. They provide excellent opportunities to shadow professionals and learn what it is really like to work in an engineering consultancy.

We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer with strong analytical skills for our Dublin office to work on a range of commercial, institutional and industrial projects in Ireland and overseas. Reporting directly to the Project Director, the ideal Candidate will be self-motivated, conscientious with a strong commitment to complete projects to a very high standard.

The candidate will be able to undertake design and specification of the range of structural engineering solutions in a supporting role to senior colleagues or as lead engineer on suitable projects.

The candidate should have a range of project experience and be familiar with designing reinforced concrete and steelwork structures to the Eurocodes. Experience with other materials is desirable, but not essential. The candidate will have experience of new-build projects of various sizes. The candidate should understand how structural engineering co-ordinates with other disciplines, particularly architecture and building services.

Junior Civil & Structural Engineering Technicians

We are currently looking for Junior / Graduate BIM Technicians to work with our engineering teams in our Dublin and Waterford Offices.

Under the supervision of more senior technicians and engineers you will assist in the production of drawings for building structures in all structural materials including steel, concrete, masonry and timber as well as substructure drainage and external works.

Key qualifications & skills

Applicants must have:

  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • A Higher Certificate (NFQ Level 6) in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Higher level qualifications (Level 7 or 8) will also be acceptable.
  • Experience of using REVIT and/or AutoCad.
  • An aptitude for 2D and 3D drawing.
  • A good understanding of the construction process using concrete, steel, timber and masonry.
