The project consists of the construction of a new manufacturing facility for Mozzarella Cheese on a greenfield site in Portlaoise.


Glanbia and Leprino Foods (US) having had a joint venture in Europe since 2000 are partnering again to construct a world class mozzarella cheese manufacturing facility to add to their operations in Wales and Northern Ireland. The raw materials will primarily be sourced in Ireland and with a manufacturing capacity of 45,000 tonnes per annum Glanbia Cheese EU will supply products to the pizza business across Europe from the new plant.

The facility is currently on site and is being constructed to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and BRC standards. The main process building covers approximately 12,500m² with an external utility building, car parking, loading docks and site works also being undertaken as part of the works. Malone O’Regan are responsible for the design, procurement and project management of all of the building works. The building works consist of a mixture of precast concrete and steel framed structure, food grade internal finishes, mechanical ventilation, pipework and electrical installations. The process equipment is being manufactured at various locations worldwide with the installation of the equipment being undertaken by the Specialist Suppliers at appropriate windows in the overall programme.
