PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This significant expansion of the existing milk processing site consisted of 3 and 5-storey extensions to the existing drying plant to accommodate a 7-tonne per hour milk dryer, 2 no. evaporators, a 3-storey extension to the milk powder silo area to accommodate new milk powder silos and an extension to the existing bagging area to accommodate additional bagging plant and electrical control rooms. Malone O’Regan was responsible for developing the specification and leading the procurement process for the main process equipment supply together with the design of the civil/structural, utilities, mechanical and electrical elements of the project to suit the main process supply and also managed the building construction, main process supplier and contractors throughout the project before co-ordinating the testing and commissioning with Lakeland Dairies to achieve smooth integration with existing plant operations. Malone O’Regan also specified and procured all equipment outside of the main process supply and was responsible for selecting and appointing all contractors and nominated sub-contractors

PROJECT COMPLEXITIES

One of the main complexities of the project was the high level of integration of the works with the existing fully operational facility and the safe co-ordination of multiple contractors who were working on very challenging programmes in heavily serviced areas.
