CENTRAL REMEDIAL CLINIC AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WATERFORD

The Central Remedial Clinic and Treatment Centre at University Hospital Waterford was completed in 2015 and comprises a purpose built single story treatment and outpatient day clinic for clients with requirements for specialised treatments.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The stone clad building incorporates an substantial internal courtyard, two physiotherapy gymnasiums, occupational therapy internal and external spaces, consultancy rooms, offices and ancillary accommodation and was designated as a flagship facility for the CRC. The structure comprises loadbearing masonry, reinforced concrete and curtain walling in a robust and efficient response to the architectural requirements, and was designed to support additional stories in specific areas as a furture guarding measure.

PROJECT COMPLEXITIES

The adjacency of the project site to the main hospital entrance presented a significant challenge to the design team and contractor in terms of construction access and management, which was successfully overcome by close collaboration between all of the project stakeholders.
