EPA HEADQUARTERS

Since its establishment in 1993, the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) remit has grown considerably as new environmental legislation has been enacted. This growth led to a demand for more specialised and larger accommodation at the EPA’s headquarters building in Ardcavan, Co. Wexford.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The development comprised a 2,000m² extension to the existing headquarters building together with alterations to the existing building. The structure comprises an in-situ concrete frame and suspended floors with proprietary curtain walling. The project is designed and built to extremely high standards of sustainability and demonstrates the EPA’s commitment to sustainable design. The civil and structural engineering designs incorporate several sustainability features including cement substitutes; thermal massing (exposed concrete); rainwater harvesting; reed beds; and permeable pavements.
