Senior Resident Engineer

Malone O’Regan wishes to recruit a Senior Resident Engineer for a significant reclamation project in Foynes Port.

The proposed reclamation works comprise the following main construction elements, details of which are shown in full on the tender drawings and specification prepared by Malone O’Regan:

  • 148m length of piled combi-wall structure
  • 30m length of sheet pile quay wall on western return
  • 169m of sheet piled anchor wall connected to main quay wall piles using tie rods
  • Reclamation of existing Berth 5 which extends over an area of approx. 1.03ha. Works to include infilling using imported materials to provide a general port working area
  • Associated surfacing, services and drainage of the reclaimed area
  • The installation of high mast lighting
  • The re-routing and undergrounding of an existing molasses pipeline
  • Construction of stone revetment to western edge of infill area


Role Description
The role will involve site based supervision, administration, monitoring and inspection of the works. The successful candidate’s duties will include:

  • Supervision and input to the administration of a construction contract (IEI 4th Edition with amendments) for a reclamation project in Foynes Port
  • Ensuring that the works are constructed in accordance with the works in accordance with requirements and any statutory approvals
  • Monitoring and reporting on the progress of the works against Programme
  • Attending site progress meetings
  • Evaluate the value of works completed on a monthly basis
  • Reviewing Contractor Method statements and ensuring that the works are being carried out in accordance with the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Regulations with the support of the Health and Safety Co-ordinator
  • Maintaining contemporaneous records of site activities in the site diary
  • Liaison with office-based engineering team
  • Daily liaison with Shannon Foynes Port Company
  • Assist Project Manager with input into the commercial administration of the contract


Candidate Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Eligibility to work legally and permanently in Ireland
  • Hold a degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications), or equivalent professional qualification, in engineering
  • At least 10 years’ post graduate relevant involving the supervising Major Civil Engineering Works
  • Relevant site experience in Ireland or UK – – experience on port and harbour projects would be advantageous
  • Competence in the administration of construction contracts – experience of the IEI contracts would be advantageous
  • Working knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety legislation and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), decision making team working skills and analytical skills
  • Motivated to achieve the highest possible quality
  • Excellent IT skills and familiar with computer applications such as MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and AutoCAD

A competitive salary package will be available to the successful Candidate.


Contract Duration

15 months with the possibility of follow-on contracts.
